This is a tutorial to make a lean dough to make a pizza, a lean dough does’t have any eggs, milk or butter in the recipe, but you can add olive oil to add some flavor to the pizza and it will also make it softer.
Pizza Dough Easy Recipe
To make your pizza dough, you can mix all the pizza ingredients and knead the dough by hand on a floured surface or mix all the ingredients in your stand mixer, both ways will make a delicious pizza.
Pizza Dough Ingredients
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1/2 tsp of dry yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 2 tsp of olive oil
- 200 ml of water
1 – Add the flour, sugar and yeast in a bowl, mix well these three ingredients with a spoon.
2 – Add the olive oil, and start mixing all the ingredients in low speed in the stand mixer, add half of the water, and pay attention on how the dough starts to get all together, add more water.
You will need to pay attention to the dough, and add little by little the water, until the dough is mixing well and it becomes a ball in the mixer. This time I only use 175 ml of the water. Let the stand mixer work for about 2 minutes on low speed (2) and add the salt, let the mixer to work for about 10 to 12 minutes, you will notice the dough is smooth and not sticky.
3 – Form a ball with the dough and add some oil to the bowl, roll the dough in the oil and place the dough in the oiled bowl, cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough to rest for about 1 hour.
4 – Grab the dough and divide it in half. With your hands, press softly the dough on a pan covered with oiled parch—- paper, with your hands press the dough to form the pizza shape.
5 – Add the pizza sauce on top of the dough, and add the pizza cheese and the pepperoni or any ingredients you want to make your pizza with.
6 – Put the pizza in the hot oven (425 F) and bake the pizza for about 12 minutes. Set up the timer so you don’t miss the baking time.
7 – Take the pizza out of the oven and let it rest for 5 to 7 minutes before you serve it.
How To Make A Homemade Pizza Sauce
You can make the homemade pizza sauce with my recipe or you can use any recipe you may have, sometimes I like to change the sauce and I use Pesto sauce.
- 1 tsp of tomato paste
- 1 fresh tomato
- 1/2 small onion
- Salt and pepper
- 1 pinch of oregano
- 1 pinch of dry parsly
1 – In a saucepan heat 2 spoons of olive oil and cook the onion.
2 – Chop the tomato in big pieces and put it in a blender, add the onion and blend the mixture well.
3 – In the same olive oil where you cook the onion, add the tomato paste and cook it for about 1 or two minutes on medium heat.
4 – Add the tomato and onion puree to the saucepan and mix well.
5 – Add the salt and pepper and all the herbs, you might want to add the herbs you and your family like.
6 – Cook the sauce until it changes color and test the flavor, when the flavor is good, turn off the heat and let it cool off.
What Is The Best Flour To Make The Pizza Dough?
Use unbleached flour for this recipe, as it has some of the protein that helps the flour to absorb more water, if you want to make a chewier pizza, you can use bread flour, but add one more spoon of water when making the dough.
How To Freeze The Pizza Dough?
This pizza dough can be storaged in the freezer up to 3 months, after you make the dough, you can divide the dough in two parts. Knead each part to form a dough ball, and lightly coat it with olive oil, put each dough ball in a freezing bag and you can place it into the freezer.
