Ingredients
For the Poolish
- 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
- 3/4 tablespoon of dry yeast
- 3 tablespoons of flour
- 1/4 cup warm water
For The Honey Buns Recipe
- 2 cups of unbleached flour
- 3 tablespoons of honey
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 3 tablespoons of butter, room temperature
- 100 ml of milk
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt

How To Make The Poolish
Stir well all dry ingredients in a bowl, add the warm water and stir well, cover with a clean kitchen towel and place the bowl on the kitchen table, let the yeast start to work for about 15 minutes.
How To Make The Honey Buns Recipe Easy
1 How To Make The Honey Buns Dough
Add the flour, the honey, the poolish, the egg and half of the milk in the stand mixer bowl, start mixing the dough at low speed.
If the rest of the milk is needed add one tablespoon at the time. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes and then add the pinch of salt, knead the dough for 2 minutes.
Cut the butter in small pieces and add it to the dough, mix the dough until the butter is incorporated to the dough.
Oil a clean bowl and put the dough lightly coated with oil on this bowl, cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel.
Let the dough raise for about 1 hour.
2 Prepare The Baking Pan
For this recipe, honey buns will be baked in a Pyrex baking dish.
Cut a piece of parchment paper big enough to cover the Pyrex baking dish, slightly butter the bottom and the sides of the baking dish and cover it with the parchment paper, sightly butter the parchment paper.
3 How Shape Up The Honey Buns
Take the dough on a lightly floured surface, and cut the dough in 12 equal portions, take one portion at a time and shape up into a bun shape.
Cover the honey milk with a clean kitchen towel and let them proof for about 45 to 60 minutes.
4 How To Prepare The Egg Wash
When the honey buns have double their size, prepare the egg wash by mixing in a bowl one egg yolk and one spoon of milk, stir well.
Brush with the egg wash lightly on each honey bun, add the topping of your preference. (sesame seed, sugar, poppy seeds)
5 How To Bake The Honey Buns
Preheat the oven to 380 F (180 C) before you add the egg wash to the buns, as once you add the egg wash on the buns, they need to go in the oven right away.
Bake the honey buns for 12 to 14 minutes, or until they are done, baking time might be different on each oven.
6 Let The Honey Buns Cool Off
Take the honey buns out of the oven and let it cool off for about 15 minutes before serving.
Honey buns can be eaten warm, but not hot.
How To Eat The Honey Buns?
Honey buns are lightly sweet and fluffy, they can be served at breakfast with some butter and your favorite jam, but these buns are good for lunchtime as accompaniment for a bowl of soup or a salad.
These buns are good also to make egg or chicken sandwich.
Can the Honey Buns Be Baked On A Cast Iron Pan?
Yes, you can use a cast iron pan to bake the honey buns, follow the same instructions to prepare the Pyrex baking pan, if your cast iron pan is already prepare to be used as a baking pan, you can skip the parchment paper.

Hi and thanks for sharing. These look totally delicious and very tempting. I have just been trying to estimate how frequently I would be able to eat one of these without throwing my low cholesterol diet off track. I guess it is the 3 tablespoons of butter, 100 ml of milk, and 1 large egg, spread out over 12 buns. Probably if I were to have one bun every other day that should be OK. But since the recipe makes a batch of 12 buns I will need both family members to consume their share as well since one batch should be eaten within a couple of days maximum.
