Pita Bread Recipe Easy
Pita bread is so easy to make that only takes a few minutes to prepare the dough, while you let it rise, you can prepare the meal or set the table, then it’s time to shape and cook the pita breads.
I’m sure you will love to make this recipe, soon it will become one of your best bread recipes to make for any meal, whether you have it for breakfast, lunch or dinner time, or if you prepare it to take as a lunch at your work place.
Pita Bread Ingredients:
- 500 gr unbleached flour
- 150 ml warm milk
- 150 ml warm water
- 1/2 tea spoon of salt
- 1/4 tea spoon of brown sugar
- 1 table spoon of dry yeast
- 3 table spoon of olive oil
Pita Bread Instructions
1 – Mix All The Ingredients In A Bowl
In a bowl add the dry ingredients and wisk well, add all the milk and half of the water, start mixing the ingredients with your hand and add the olive oil, keep mixing the ingredients with your hand.
As you keep mixing the ingredients the dough will start forming, if you see lots of flour still on the bottom of the bowl add more water, one spoon at a time, the dough should be one ball and it might be sticky, keep kneading the dough in the bowl with your hand.
You might be surprised as the dough will stop being sticky after you keep kneading it for 2 to 5 minutes.
2 – Let The Pita Dough Rise
Form one dough bowl and put some olive oil in the bowl, roll the pita dough in the oil. Place the dough in the bowl and cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel. The bowl can be covered also with a plastic wrap, but I prefer to cover the bowl with a kitchen towel as this way I don’t use any plastic wrap for just one time.
Let the dough rise for 45 minutes.
3 – Divide The Pita Dough
Take the Pita dough in your hands and divide the dough in 10 portions, roll each portion to make a ball and place all the dough balls in the bowl again, let it rest for 15 minutes.
4 – Shape The Pitas
On a lightly floured surface, shape the pita dough with a rolling pin, it should be 1/4 inch thick. You can shape two pitas and place them aside while you bake one, the second pita can rest while you cook the first one.
5 – Cook The Pita Bread On The Stove
Pita bread can be baked in the oven, but I like to cook it on the stove.
Heat a skillet on medium to high heat on the stove, test the skillet with some water and when the water drops sizzle immediately the skillet is heated enough to start cooking the pita breads.
Lay on the skillet one pita dough at a time, and let it rest for about 30 second, flip the pita bread to the other side with the help of a spatula, let the pita bread cook for about 1 minute, you will see the pita bread starts showing some bubbles, and it will also start puffing up, flip again the pita bread..
Flip again the pita bread, and let it cook until it puffs up forming a pocket.
Tip: when you start cooking the first pita bread, it might not puff and it might only form some bubbles, you might need to increase the heat on the stove, pay attention as you keep cooking the pita breads, the skillet might heat too much and it won’t give enough time to the bread to be cooked, you can moderate the heat as you keep cooking the pita breads.
7 – Keep Cooked Pita Bread Covered
As you cook the rest of the pita breads, place the ones that are already cooked in a clean kitchen towel.
